Felice Varini, born on March 6, 1952 in Locarno, Switzerland, is a painter and visual artist.
His work often takes spectacular forms. He uses as a support, the places and the architectures of the spaces on which he intervenes, he however defends himself from using the anamorphosis that one often associates to him.
Painting requires a surface, Felice Varini defines “architectural space, and everything that constitutes it” as his field of action and the primary support for his painting. “Going beyond the frame”, it is with these few words that he launches the explanation of a way of working and an important characteristic of his artistic approach. He plays with the horizon, from interior to exterior spaces and always in situ.

“In general, I go through the place, noting its architecture, its materials, its history and its function. From its different spatial data and in reference to the last piece I made, I define a point of view around which my intervention takes shape.
I call a point of view a point of the space that I choose with precision. It is generally located at eye level and preferably on a passageway, an opening between one room and another, a landing. However, I do not make this a rule because not all spaces have an obvious path. The choice is often arbitrary.
The point of view will function as a point of reading. That is to say as a possible starting point for the approach of the painting and the space. The painted form is coherent when the viewer is at this point. When the viewer leaves the point of view, the work meets the space which generates an infinity of points of view on the form. It is not through this first point that I see the work done. This one is held in the whole of the points of view that the spectator can have on him.
I establish a particular relationship with architectural characteristics that influence the form of the installation. My work keeps its independence whatever the architectures that I meet.
I start from a real situation to build my painting. This reality is never altered, erased or modified. It interests me and attracts me in all its complexity. My practice is to work “here and now”.
