Riccardo Prosperi, aka Simafra, began painting in 2000. He works for a famous Florentine workshop of restorers.
His dream landscapes have been exhibited internationally in galleries in Paris, Berlin, Istanbul, Rome, Florence and London as well as on international film sets.
Looking at his rich use of color and spontaneous mark making, we can note the strong influences of the great Italian abstract expressionist painters. The use of gold combined with layered textures has also drawn comparisons to Klimt.
His gold infused paintings provide a coveted touch of luxury to adorn galleries, film sets, venues and more intimate interior spaces.
Exhibitions
Since 2004, he has participated in the first competitions and group exhibitions in Tuscany. In a few years he begins to exhibit in Italy and abroad. In 2012, he founded in Florence, La Bottega Moderna, an independent cultural space and artist’s studio.
He begins to collaborate with the gallery Virginie Barrou Planquart in Paris. The gallery hosts his first solo exhibition in Paris and participates in numerous fairs in Europe.
In May 2014, he presented his project Le Quattro Stagioni, four paintings of monumental dimensions, also exhibited in Florence.
In December 2015, some of his works were chosen by the Maddox Gallery in London, to participate in the collective “Art Fusion”, with which the gallery inaugurates its activity.
Since 2016, he has been collaborating with the Maddox Gallery, with which he participates in the Houston Art Fair. Subsequently, he worked on his first site-specific installation, entitled Self-Esteem.
The Maddox Gallery in London presents the first solo exhibition of the artist, Eden. In Rome, he presents a new series of works collected in the solo exhibition.
In 2018, Simafra realizes, after a stay in Finland, a series dedicated to Lapland. One of these works will be part of the “Alessandro Grassi” collection, on permanent loan to the Center for Contemporary Art in Prato. At the same time, two other works will participate in the group exhibition at the Museum of Kakslauttanen in Finland.
Finally, in 2020, Simafra moves his studio and decides to embark on a new path. His recent works are an expression of the research he has begun in recent months. Entirely dedicated to the relationship between Man and Nature, these new paintings are the symbols of a reborn artist.
