John Eric Byers is a critically acclaimed artist. He meticulously uses wood by hand to create minimalist and refined pieces in a modern way. A purity of form, structure and respect for the use of materials guides John’s work. As noted in the New York Times, “carved and patterned surfaces add considerable interest to his simplified forms.”
Artist’s statement
“My work is informed by my personal discipline and commitment as a pragmatic idealist. It strives to achieve a perfect balance of form + surface + function. It also comes from the way I approach the physicality of the work itself, with awareness.
Also, It embraces the realities and limitations of my body, my craft, my materials, and using these limitations to navigate towards the ideal outcome. I have sucess in the art market. Instead, I’m releasing the work individually to my collection of representative showrooms and galleries.
I am looking forward to a new relationship with a London showroom early this year. Next fall, Moderne Gallery will represent my work at the Art & Design Show in New York and Design Miami, as they have done in recent years.
I see a similar drive, commitment, and freedom of self expression in the current contemporary American design scene, and that is exciting.”
