Brankica Zilovic was born in 1974 in Serbia. She lives and works in Paris. After graduating from the National Superior School of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1998, she enrolled at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Brankica Zilovic develops a work in which the thread appears in a recurrent way. The embroidery and the textile universes are gradually associated with her practices through installations or drawings.
The artist proceeds to memorial acts in which the relationship to accumulation and abnegation allows rhizomatic configurations to emerge. These display an almost neuronal complexity that ultimately reflects the world of today.
“The idea of borders is infinitely present in my work. I come from a region with completely fragmented, shifting borders. My national identity is itself wavering and scattered. The textile material, once again, makes sense in this configuration. A first reading of my work would probably aim to signify a decaying geopolitics, a world subject to inevitable erosion, yet the sense of loss is played out more in depth than on the surface.”
Her work has been exhibited at the Shanghai Museum of Modern Art, the National Automobile Museum of Turin and the Caudry Lace Museum. She participates in the exhibition Beyond our dreams at the Royal Monastery of Brou in Bourg-en-Bresse.
Brankica Zilovic participates in several contemporary art fairs and festivals such as MININIARTEXTIL, Drawing Now, Chic Art Fair, and Salon de Montrouge. She teaches at Parsons Paris and at Lisaa, Institut supérieur d’art appliqué.
