Alexandre Chary’s words
“In the mid 90’s I started my professional journey when globalization was still at an early stage. With this evolution I realized that our generation had access to a new universe of information, that we could change country, jobs, style, lives by a simple click. We entered what I called the « remote control society ». It gave my sense of curiosity and adventure the means to explore my dreams but it also raised a big question. How do you keep consumers happy in a world so full of new temptations? How do you make sure they come back to you?”
From design to interior furniture
Alexandre Chary founded PROMETHEUS LIGHT&GLASS in 1999 which is a company dedicated to the creation of unique custom lighting fixtures with a unique identity for hotels, casinos and restaurants around the world. Therefore he has worked with world-renowned talents such as Jacques Garcia, Sybille de Margerie, Patrick Jouin and Sir Terence Conran. They gave him the opportunity to develop his creative vision, especially on his Landmark projects. Eventually, these talents led him to extend his design range to interior furniture.
Between France and China
Alexandre Chary travels between France and China in order to concretise his new approach to design. As a result, he collaborates with artists, craftsmen and design groups on both sides of the world.
For the designer, identity is the key word. Indeed, in a globalized world, identity is important in the sense that it allows one to stand out, regardless of the target audience.
“My design identity is quite simple and can be defined by two words: Organic, Dynamic. These are the filters I am applying to any subject, technique I am working with. I am very inspired by nature. The seamless joint of a branch in a plant, the parametric patterns of corals, the structure of an insect, the muscles of a horse are fascinating to me. The notion of growth, evolution is also something that captures my attention. You can see the dynamic flow of the wind in the way a tree has been shaped by this play between gravity and the other forces of the Earth. These two notions are at the core of my quest for an elegant and meaningful design.”
