FIRMAN Daniel

Daniel Firman was born in 1966 in Bron, France.
After studying at the Beaux-arts of Saint-Etienne and Angoulême, he became interested in conventional sculpture. Since 1998, he has turned to a unique formal language. His creations are regularly the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions in France and abroad. Daniel Firman now lives and works in Paris.

Daniel Firman’s interest in the physics and energy of the body, in movement and its relationship to space is reflected in his sculptural work, in which the figure recurs in a recurring manner.
Considered each time as a “character”, caught in a choreographic and narrative momentum, the figure is treated in a realistic mode that encourages the viewer to project himself into the work as much as to keep his distance from it. The faces are always hidden, which brings an additional mystery to these characters suspended in time.

His works combine chance and design, body and mind, suspension of time and movement. His works are conceived from various techniques and processes: performance, casting or recycling…

Daniel Firman thinks of each of his sculptures as a “system environment” in which ideas and forms interact. He considers the human body as the interface of the individual with the world, as the vector of the presence and the action of the individual in a universe at the same time banal and in transformation.

Daniel Firman is one of the important figures of the French artistic scene. 
Regularly participating in numerous solo and group exhibitions in France and abroad, he has developed a unique formal language over more than a decade, focusing particularly on the question of bodies and their balance. Constantly exploring the territory of sculpture, Daniel Firman stages anonymous characters and everyday elements in situations of precarious balance.
